Compliance
Offering Wi-Fi to the public means being accountable for it.
Logetic turns your legal obligations into simple settings: user identification, log retention, personal data protection.
The legal framework
What the law expects from a public Wi-Fi operator.
Depending on your business and status, you may be required to identify the users of your Internet access and to provide the authorities, on request, with information about their connections.
Switzerland
SPTA (LSCPT / BÜPF) and nFADP
The Federal Act on the Surveillance of Post and Telecommunications (SPTA) and its ordinances govern user identification and the disclosure of information to the authorities. The nFADP governs the processing of users’ personal data.
- User identification
- Retention of connection data
- Disclosure of information on request
- Data limited to what is necessary and protected
European Union
GDPR and national law
The GDPR governs the processing of users’ data, and each country sets its own rules for retaining connection data. Logetic adapts to the requirements of the country where it is deployed.
- Clear information for users
- Configurable retention periods
- Easy access and deletion rights
- Security of stored data
Transparency
What is stored, for how long, and who can access it.
Logetic only collects the information needed to identify a connection. Nothing more.
| Data | Example | What it is used for |
|---|---|---|
| User identifier | E-mail, mobile number or access code | Identify the connected person |
| Session start and end | Date and time, time-stamped | Know when the connection took place |
| Technical addresses | Assigned IP address, device MAC address | Link a connection to a device |
| Acceptance of the terms | Date and version of the accepted terms | Prove the user was informed |
How long?
The retention period is set according to the obligations that apply to your organisation. At the end of it, the data is deleted automatically.
Who can access it?
Only the designated administrators responsible for setting up Logetic have access to the logs, with both the appliance and the cloud. No one else. Logs are handed to the authorities only on official request.
Where is it?
Logs are recorded on the appliance, then transferred to Logetic’s central Syslog server, hosted in Switzerland. They cannot be modified.
If the authorities ask
